Keep Garage Door Closed

FACT:  A majority of the residential burglary reports written were written because a resident left a garage door open.

Garage’s can be very vulnerable areas if not secured properly.  Locking up your garage while you are both away and home is just as important as locking up the other parts of your house.

Electronic garage doors are easily manipulated by decoders and garages with decorative glass panels are easy targets for a thief. It only takes a thief a few seconds to break out the glass panels in the garage door and pull the manual override cord inside to get in easily. Adding an auxiliary slide lock or latch inside that requires a padlock is one of the best ways to secure it, especially if you are going away for any period of time.  However, you will need to consider disengaging your electronic devise if this security method is adopted.

Wireless garage door monitors are now available, easily installed and highly recommended.  A garage door monitor is also a great means of alerting and reminding a resident that the garage door is open by sounding an alarm inside of the home.
